What is the role of a dental hygienist?

Dental hygienists are licensed oral healthcare professionals who specialize in preventive dental care. They perform tasks such as teeth cleaning, dental X-rays, and educating patients on maintaining good oral hygiene.

How often should I see a dental hygienist for teeth cleaning?

The frequency of dental cleanings can vary from person to person. In general, it’s recommended to visit a dental hygienist every six months for a routine cleaning. However, individuals with specific dental issues may require more frequent visits.

Is teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist painful?

Routine teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist is typically not painful. You may experience some minor discomfort or sensitivity during the process, but it should not be painful. If you have concerns about discomfort, discuss them with your hygienist, who can make adjustments to ensure your comfort.

Do dental hygienists provide advice on oral care at home?

Yes, dental hygienists play a crucial role in educating patients about maintaining good oral hygiene at home. They can provide guidance on proper brushing and flossing techniques, the use of mouthwash, and the importance of a balanced diet for dental health.

Can a dental hygienist detect dental problems like cavities and gum disease?

Yes, dental hygienists are trained to identify common dental issues, including cavities and gum disease. They often perform dental X-rays and thorough examinations to spot early signs of these problems.

Can a dental hygienist assist with my issue of gum bleeding?

Certainly! A dental hygienist can be instrumental in addressing the issue of gum bleeding. They are trained to perform thorough cleanings, removing plaque and tartar buildup that can contribute to gum irritation and bleeding. Additionally, they can assess the health of your gums, identify signs of gum disease, and provide personalised guidance on improving your oral hygiene routine. Regular visits to a dental hygienist are essential for preventing and managing gum issues, ensuring your gums stay healthy and free from bleeding.

Can dental hygienist cure my bad breath?

Dental hygienists play a vital role in addressing bad breath by providing thorough cleanings, removing plaque and tartar buildup, and offering personalised advice on maintaining optimal oral hygiene. However, the ability to completely cure bad breath depends on its underlying cause. If the issue primarily stems from foods, poor oral hygiene, gum disease, or dental problems, regular visits to a dental hygienist can significantly improve and potentially eliminate bad breath. Still, it’s crucial to note that persistent bad breath may be indicative of underlying medical conditions or lifestyle factors, which would require a comprehensive assessment by our dentist for a complete diagnosis and tailored treatment plan.

Fantastic dentists. The reception team are always polite and helpful.I have had a number of dentists in the 20 years I have been a customer and all have been brilliant.I am currently with Holly who is amazing and has done a wonderful job with my Invisalign and then a few cosmetic changes. This is the best dental care I’ve ever received. I’m fearful patient but.my dentist (Sophie) has always found a way to calm my anxiety and never rushed me. I asked that if it was possible for them not to tell me what they were doing if possible legally (obviously they have to tell me some things) and i know it’s silly but she didn’t make me feel silly and agreed. I have disabilities too which make laying in the chair uncomfortable but we worked out a system of me lifting my hand if I need to move while she’s working on me. My fears have always been taken into consideration and I’ve never been made to feel bad because of them (childhood trauma yay). They give me distraction techniques and said they’d stop if it got too much (so far not needed to do that). Even after telling them I’d need to be referred to hospital because of one of my conditions for extraction procedures they were great and told me that fine. I’ll never go anywhere else now. Thank you Sophie for helping get over my fears without making me feel like a baby

I joined this dental practice last month after succumbing to pain and a broken back tooth. It's been (i'm ashamed to say) a good few years since i've had a check up, and from my first appointment i felt totally at ease, all the staff are lovely. Had a mighty filling today, and Sinead and the girls (sorry i didn’t catch their names) were brilliant! So nice to have found somewhere like this. Highly recommend!

Been coming here for years and have always been satisfied with the treatment and staff whom are all really friendly and professional too . On a recent visit I paid for some treatment which didn’t work how it should have , but I want to say thank you for all the help in rectifying the problem from all the staff . I would also like to mention a gentleman called Iain cowie whom kept in touch through both text and calls to see if everything was working out as it should be . Once again thank you for the professional treatment which I received.

Really pleased with my first visit and appointment at this dentistry. From the booking of the appointment to the appointment itself it was a great experience. The consultation itself was extremely professional andvery personable and certainly made me feel at ease. Although I have got procedures upcoming, I know exactly what the state of my teeth is, what to expect and how to prevent further complications in the future.
