Dental Crowns in Swallownest, Sheffield (3)What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns, often referred to as dental caps, are custom-made restorations that cover and encase a natural tooth or dental implant. These tooth-shaped “caps” are placed over the visible portion of a tooth to restore its strength, functionality, and aesthetics.

Who Needs Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a versatile and beneficial dental treatment option suitable for a wide range of individuals who may be experiencing various dental issues.

  1. Tooth Decay: When a tooth has extensive decay or cavities that cannot be adequately restored with a dental filling, a crown can be placed to strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure.
  2. Who Needs Dental Crowns in Swallownest, SheffieldCracked or Fractured Teeth: Teeth that are cracked or fractured due to injury, accidents, or extensive wear may require crowns to prevent further damage and restore their integrity.
  3. Large Fillings: Teeth with large fillings that have deteriorated or weakened over time may benefit from crowns to provide added support and protection.
  4. Root Canal Treatment: After a root canal procedure to treat infected or damaged tooth pulp, a crown is often placed to seal and protect the treated tooth, preventing reinfection and restoring function.
  5. Misshapen or Discoloured Teeth: Dental crowns can be used to improve the appearance of teeth that are misshapen, severely discoloured, or have aesthetic imperfections, creating a more attractive and uniform smile.
  6. Weak or Worn Teeth: Teeth that have been weakened due to grinding, bruxism, or excessive wear may require crowns to reinforce and strengthen them, reducing the risk of further damage.
  7. Tooth Support for Dental Bridges: Crowns serve as abutments (anchor teeth) for dental bridges, helping to bridge the gap left by missing teeth and restore proper biting and chewing function.
  8. Implant Restorations: Dental crowns are used as the visible part of dental implants, replacing missing teeth. They provide a natural-looking and functional tooth replacement option.
  9. Children with Severe Tooth Decay: In some cases, children with severe tooth decay may require dental crowns on their primary (baby) teeth to preserve their functionality until permanent teeth erupt.
  10. Cosmetic Enhancements: Individuals seeking cosmetic improvements may choose dental crowns to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing smile by addressing issues like tooth shape, size, and colour.
  11. Prevention of Tooth Fracture: Teeth that are at risk of fracturing due to factors like a history of multiple fillings or weakened enamel can be protected with crowns.
  12. Orthodontic Treatment: In orthodontic cases, dental crowns may be used to reshape and align teeth as part of the overall treatment plan.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer a multitude of benefits, making them a versatile and valuable solution in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Here are the key advantages of dental crowns:

  1. Tooth Protection: Dental crowns provide a protective shield for damaged or weakened teeth, preventing further deterioration and the need for extraction.
  2. Restored Functionality: Crowns restore the functionality of damaged or decayed teeth, enabling patients to bite, chew, and speak with ease and confidence.
  3. Aesthetic Enhancement: Crowns are customised to match the color, shape, and size of natural teeth, improving the overall appearance of the smile and concealing imperfections.
  4. Longevity: With proper care and maintenance, dental crowns can last for many years, offering a durable and long-lasting solution.
  5. Versatility: Crowns are versatile and can address various dental concerns, from tooth decay and fractures to cosmetic enhancements and structural support.
  6. Preservation of Natural Teeth: Crowns preserve the natural tooth structure, reducing the need for more invasive treatments like extractions.
  7. Comfort: Crowns restore the comfort of chewing and speaking, allowing individuals to enjoy a wide range of foods and communicate clearly.
  8. Stability for Dental Bridges: Crowns serve as stable anchor points for dental bridges, replacing missing teeth and maintaining proper tooth alignment.
  9. Protection After Root Canal: Following a root canal procedure, a crown is placed to seal and protect the treated tooth, preventing reinfection.
  10. Improved Self-Confidence: Aesthetic crowns can significantly boost self-confidence by enhancing the appearance of the smile.
  11. Resistance to Stains: Dental crowns, particularly those made from porcelain or ceramic, are resistant to stains, helping to maintain a bright and vibrant smile.
  12. Natural-Looking Results: Crowns are designed to replicate the natural appearance of teeth, ensuring a seamless blend with the surrounding dentition.
  13. Customisation: Each crown is customised to meet the unique needs and preferences of the patient, ensuring a personalised and natural-looking result.
  14. Restoration of Dental Implants: Crowns are used as the visible portion of dental implants, providing a stable and functional tooth replacement option.

  16. Minimisation of Tooth Sensitivity: Crowns can help reduce tooth sensitivity by covering exposed dentin or nerve endings.

The Process of Dental Crowns in Swallownest, Sheffield The Process of Getting Your Crowns

The process of getting dental crowns at Anderson & Broadberry Dental Care involves several steps to ensure a precise fit, optimal functionality, and aesthetic harmony with the patient’s natural teeth. Here is an overview of the typical process for obtaining dental crowns:

  1. Initial Consultation: The journey begins with a consultation with one of our dentists in Swallownest, Sheffield. During this appointment, you will discuss your dental concerns, treatment options, and your goals for the outcome.
  2. Examination and X-Rays: Our dentist will conduct a thorough examination of the tooth that requires a crown. X-rays may be taken to assess the extent of damage or decay and to check the health of the tooth’s roots.
  3. Treatment Planning: Based on the examination and diagnostic findings, the dentist will create a personalised treatment plan, outlining the need for a dental crown and the specific type of crown recommended.
  4. Tooth Preparation: To accommodate the dental crown, the affected tooth will be prepared. This typically involves removing a small portion of the outer layer of the tooth, including any decayed or damaged areas. Local anaesthesia is usually administered to ensure a pain-free procedure.
  5. Impression: Once the tooth is prepared, an impression or digital scan of the tooth and the surrounding area is taken. This impression serves as a precise model for crafting the custom dental crown.
  6. Temporary Crown: While the permanent crown is being custom-made at a dental laboratory, a temporary crown may be placed on the prepared tooth to protect it and maintain appearance and function.
  7. Crown Fabrication: Skilled dental technicians at the dental laboratory use the impressions to create the custom dental crown. The crown is designed to match the size, shape, and colour of the patient’s natural teeth.
  8. Crown Fitting: Once the custom crown is ready, you return to our dental clinic for the fitting. The dentist ensures that the crown fits properly and comfortably, making any necessary adjustments.
  9. Permanent Placement: After the fitting, the final dental crown is permanently cemented onto the prepared tooth. The cement creates a secure bond between the crown and the tooth.
  10. Bite and Comfort Check: The dentist will check your bite to ensure it’s even and comfortable with the new crown in place. Any necessary adjustments will be made to ensure a proper fit.
  11. Post-Placement Care: The dentist will provide instructions on post-placement care, including proper oral hygiene and any dietary restrictions.
  12. Follow-Up Appointments: You’ll schedule follow-up appointments with the dentist to monitor the stability and performance of the dental crown, making any necessary adjustments.

The best dental experience ever. I am a very reluctant patient normally but the care and time shown this week was amazing. From the second walking in to walking out I was made to feel relaxed. The team members are so supportive of each other and happy cheerful laughter was all around the building. I would recommend that you give then a chance to treat you the same.

A first rate dental practice. I've been very happy with the service provided. Staff are helpful and polite and the premises are very clean and tidy. The only thing that prevents 5 stars is awkward and limited parking facilities.

I've been suffering with a tooth abcess and rang up to make a private emergency appointment ASAP, (FYI this is not my usual dental practice and was recommended here by a friend) the staff that i spoke to were friendly and booked me in 2 days later, they took a £30 deposit for booking confirmation. Fast forward 2 days later, I arrived early for my 8:30am appointment to be told that they had not actually booked me in, and that I would not be able to be seen by any members of staff, I was told to ring 111. Safe to say I won't be returning, the organisation is sloppy at best. Got my deposit back at least, but what a waste of my time.

I’ve been a patient of this surgery for 18 months now since moving to the area. The service is excellent, the staff friendly and they manage my children when they’re in the chair just as brilliantly as they manage me (long history of dental issues) and my husband (very few dental issues). Highly recommended.

From entering the dentist for the first time yesterday, I felt like everything was handled in a friendly and professional manor. The reception staff and practice manager were polite, and made me feel comfortable. The dental assist and Dr Elizabeth both made me feel relaxed after explaining my anxiety. Dr Elizabeth’s professional but relaxed approach made me feel comfortable and confident in her care. She explained every stage of the assessment, which I fully respected and appreciated. I have a long treatment plan to be put in place, but I have every trust in this Dental Practice to complete my care in a personable way, handling my anxieties. Thank you.

I have been attending Anderson and Broadberry dental practice for several years now and recently had some treatment for crowns to be fitted.
On the first appointment I was quite anxious but on meeting Dr Broadberry I was immediately put at ease and reassured everything would be fine.
Throughout the treatment I was always relaxed and comfortable and the work I had done is excellent as always and I am thrilled to bits with the results. I would gladly recommend Anderson and Broadberry to anyone.
Many thanks to Dr Broadberry and all the staff.
Kind regards

Fantastic dentists.
The reception team are always polite and helpful.
I have had a number of dentists in the 20 years I have been a customer and all have been brilliant.
I am currently with Holly who is amazing and has done a wonderful job with my Invisalign and then a few cosmetic changes. She has a great assistant too, which makes a usually stressful experience into a fun one.
Highly recommend.

This is the best dental care I’ve ever received. I’m fearful patient but.my dentist (Sophie) has always found a way to calm my anxiety and never rushed me. I asked that if it was possible for them not to tell me what they were doing if possible legally (obviously they have to tell me some things) and i know it’s silly but she didn’t make me feel silly and agreed. I have disabilities too which make laying in the chair uncomfortable but we worked out a system of me lifting my hand if I need to move while she’s working on me. My fears have always been taken into consideration and I’ve never been made to feel bad because of them (childhood trauma yay). They give me distraction techniques and said they’d stop if it got too much (so far not needed to do that). Even after telling them I’d need to be referred to hospital because of one of my conditions for extraction procedures they were great and told me that fine. I’ll never go anywhere else now. Thank you Sophie for helping get over my fears without making me feel like a baby

Had a mighty filling today, and Sinead and the girls (sorry i didn’t catch their names) were brilliant! So nice to have found somewhere like this. Highly recommend!
